Introduction
SQUUSHED is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all participants in our craft workshops, including children and vulnerable adults. This policy outlines our commitment to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of all individuals in our care.
Purpose
This policy aims to:

Outline clear procedures for staff, volunteers, and participants.

Comply with relevant Irish legislation, including the Children First Act 2015 and the Adult Safeguarding Bill 2017.
Scope
This policy applies to all employees, volunteers, and anyone working on behalf of SQUUSHED who interacts with children and vulnerable adults in our workshops.
Definitions

Child: Any person under the age of 18.

Vulnerable Adult: A person aged 18 or over who, due to age, disability, illness, or other circumstances, may be unable to protect themselves from harm or exploitation.
Safeguarding Principles

Zero Tolerance: We do not tolerate any form of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

Respect and Dignity: Everyone is treated with respect and given equal opportunities.

Code of Conduct
All staff and volunteers must:

Treat all children and vulnerable adults with respect.

Never engage in inappropriate physical contact, verbal abuse, or exploitative behaviour.

Avoid being alone with a child or vulnerable adult where possible.

Reporting Concerns
If you witness or suspect any form of abuse, you must report it immediately via help@squushed.com. Reports will be assessed and, if necessary, referred to Tusla – Child and Family Agency or the HSE Safeguarding Team.
Procedures for Handling Concerns

Any concern should be reported to help@squushed.com as soon as possible.

Concerns will be documented and assessed.

If appropriate, concerns will be referred to the relevant authorities.

Confidentiality will be maintained, but information may be shared with relevant professionals where necessary.
Recruitment and Training

All staff and volunteers must undergo safeguarding training.

Background checks (e.g., Garda Vetting) may be required for individuals working directly with children or vulnerable adults.

Staff will be informed of safeguarding procedures as part of their induction.
Supervision and Workshop Safety

Workshops will be conducted in safe and supervised environments.

A minimum ratio of responsible adults to children/vulnerable adults will be maintained.

Emergency procedures will be in place and communicated to participants.
Data Protection and Confidentiality
All personal information collected about participants will be stored securely and used only for safeguarding purposes in compliance with GDPR.
Review and Updates
This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to ensure compliance with best practices and legal requirements.
